FoodChange strives to develop innovative programs to
improve the lives of low-income New Yorkers through nutrition, education
and financial empowerment. Because we seek to address these challenges
on all levels, from cooking healthy food in our community kitchen to advocating
for citywide food policy change in the offices of government officals,
FoodChange is uniquely positioned to develop practical, scalable solutions
while working to create systemic change.
FoodChange’s technical assistance and partnership
initiatives help us bridge the gap between our direct service programs
and our policy and advocacy. Working across New York City with dozens
of dedicated community organizations, faith-based centers, unions, businesses,
schools and government agencies, FoodChange provides introductory and
ongoing training and technical assistance to our partners. Examples include:
- Food Stamp Eligibility and Determination:
FoodChange provides “best practices” training to dozens
of partners on the legal and procedural requirements for food stamp
eligibility, allowing them to inform their clients, members and customers
about these critical services.
- Nutritious School Food:
FoodChange is leading the charge in bringing nutritious food into New
York City’s public schools. FoodChange lends its expertise in
nutrition, food systems, coalition-building and institutional change
to the SchoolFood Plus initiative.
- Earned Income Tax Credit:
FoodChange works with more than 200 partners to promote the EITC across
the five boroughs. FoodChange serves as an educator with dozens of organizations
sending their staff to us to learn about the EITC.
