FoodChange has been feeding hungry children and adults
in New York for 25 years, helping them get the resources they need to
put food on the table and improve the nutritional value of the food they
consume.
Ensure people have access to food
FoodChange provides food and access to food resources
for low-income individuals and families, seniors and others who require
assistance. FoodChange tailors its services to accommodate people's needs
and gives them choice: creating a pantry modeled after a supermarket,
delivering meals to homebound individuals, serving sit-down dinners and
offering bagged meals that working people can pick up at the end of the
day. FoodChange also gives people access to the resources they are entitled
to, like food stamps, helping them to put food on the table.
Make nutrition an essential part of the food equation
FoodChange takes emergency food assistance to the next
level, striving to serve food with optimum nutritional value wherever
possible. Providing calories is not enough and sometimes even problematic.
FoodChange aims to use whole and minimally processed foods in what we
serve to our clients as part of our Healthy Dining service, and what we
offer in our Food Pantry.
Demonstrate that a healthy, well-balanced diet
is an option for low-income people
FoodChange demonstrates that a healthy, well-balanced
diet is an option for low-income New Yorkers, and a real alternative to
the fast food and unhealthy eating choices that are currently the norm.
FoodChange prepares nutritious meals in our Community Kitchen, gives people
healthy choices in the Food Pantry and creates a Community Supported Agriculture
program that brings inexpensive, farm-fresh produce to Harlem seven months
out of the year. We also help eligible New Yorkers get food stamps, which
gives them money to buy groceries make healthier purchasing choices.
